lovely dinner party this weekend
Cooked for 8, drank Spanish reds, craft beers and a bottle of my Wild Hog pinot. On the menu: braised short ribs (marinated overnight, falling off the bone), scalloped potato gratin with fresh herbs, grilled eggplant & zucchini with feta dressing, and a kale & brussel sprouts salad (fresh lemon juice, sesame oil, toasted almonds, shaved pecorino… big hit)

perfect sunday.
Woke early, breakfasted to homemade pan-fried dumplings, then read Elle Decor. Headed out midday to Surfas in Culver City (best cook supplies in LA), where I bought some industrial bakeware and an expensive jar of duck fat (THE secret to gorgeously browned potatoes). Then, highlight of my day, had a lovely catch-up with Aida over iced coffee. Some people radiate warmth and energize you with their...

I’ve just returned from a walk at the Grove, where I spent an hour chatting with a helpful employee at Sur La Table. In the process, debated cutlery blades and confirmed my suspicions about what cookware pieces are worth their weight. Currently researching and obsessing over the 7 1/4 quart Le Creuset round french (dutch) oven, preferably in the Truffle shade available exclusively at...
